'The Eldred's of Ipswich and Colchester, Hadleigh, Dover and Great Saxham'   by John Blatchly

How did Thomas Cavendish and Thomas Eldred, from quite different backgrounds, come to be friends at Ipswich Grammar School in the 1560s, and then shipmates on the circumnavigation of 1586-88. What happened to them when their paths diverged? What is left of Thomas Eldred's house in Fore Street, and how was it that Eldred's were the top men in Ipswich, Hadleigh and Colchester?

John Blatchly hope to answer all these questions and many more at the Ipswich Maritime Trust Spring Talk

Afternoon Tea Walk

Christchurch Park's history goes back to pre Doomsday times when the mansion was a priory. After the Reformation, the grounds became the park of a private house until the beginning of the 20th Century when they were brought by the Borough and became a public park. The walk takes in this long history as well as improvements made possible by the Heritage Lottery Fund.
