Sports Area for the Ipswich Waterfront

UCS has secured Olympic legacy funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund for a major sporting development on Ipswich Waterfront. This funding will enable UCS to develop a multi-purpose outdoor sports and physical activity area adjacent to the James Hehir Building at the Ipswich Campus. When completed, the facilities will provide an accessible space for students, staff and the local community to participate in recreational sport and physical activity, as well as becoming a hub for UCS sports clubs and teams.

In 2012 Waterfront Action were asked to undertake a community consultation survey (results) which gave a very positive response to the scheme and subsequently supported UCS in their successful application for £98k which they have match-funded with a further £98k.

This is really fantastic news for the Ipswich Waterfront and will provide a great facility for the community and visitors. On the downside, with the change of area it looks like the only ‘green’ area on Ipswich Waterfront will be lost....so lets hope for some good landscaping to be part of this.
